Wildflower Murrayfield Day Nursery and Pre-school offers a warm, homely environment where children feel safe, comfortable, and ready to explore.
Located on a residential street close to Edinburgh Zoo, the nursery has a strong focus on outdoor learning, nature, and meaningful relationships. Children are supported by a team who take time to understand their individuality, interests, and routines.
The nursery combines a calm, nurturing atmosphere with rich opportunities for outdoor play, forest visits, local community experiences, yoga, music, and mindful moments.
Murrayfield has a distinctive nature-focused approach.
Children regularly spend time exploring the nursery's main garden, eco-garden, outdoor classroom, mud kitchens, climbing areas, clay stations, and bug hotels. The nursery also has access to the scout hall garden next door, securely accessed from the rear garden.
Forest trips take place twice a week, giving children regular opportunities to connect with nature, explore Corstorphine Hill, and sometimes even catch a glimpse of the zoo animals nearby.
The nursery also offers Tatti Bumpkin music and yoga sessions, local community visits, Bookbug sessions, care home visits, and opportunities to explore local green spaces.
Inside, the environment is calm and comforting, with low lighting and a Hygge-inspired approach that promotes connection, belonging, comfort, and a sense of home.
Each day follows a familiar rhythm, with flexibility around children's individual routines.
Children arrive from 8:00am and begin their day with breakfast and free play, including access to outdoor spaces. Lunch is served around 11:30am, followed by more time for play, exploration, outdoor learning, and rest where needed. Afternoon snack is offered around 3:30pm.

The team uses approaches such as visual prompts, now-and-next boards, visual timetables, object and song signifiers, and works closely with the local authority and other professionals.

Nursery Manager
Wildflower Murrayfield Day Nursery and Pre-school is led by Rebecca Campbell, who brings 15 years of experience in early years and education.
Rebecca's background is rooted in early years, outdoor learning, and supporting children with additional needs in outdoor environments. Before joining Murrayfield, she worked with Harmeny Education Trust, a residential school for looked after children.
She has also managed an outdoor nursery based within a country park, bringing valuable experience in nature-led early years provision.
Rebecca holds a BA (Hons) in Education with Early Years specialism, an HNC in Early Education and Childcare, and an SVQ 3 in Social Services for Children and Young People.
Rebecca is passionate about supporting staff to be creative, confident, and well resourced. She believes that when staff feel supported to flourish, children benefit from the best possible environment to feel safe, secure, and ready to play and learn.
Starting nursery is an important step, and we take time to support each child through that transition.
Our settling process is gradual, flexible, and guided by your child's individual needs, helping them build confidence at a pace that feels right.
